New to Jewelry Taking Photos and Need Help

Hello all,
I am not experienced with photography but need to take nice photos of jewelry, rings, watches, diamonds.  I have a Canon Rebel Xti  camera and just purchased a 100mm 2.8f USM lens.  I also pocess a light box.
First, I need help choosing an inexpensive but proper tripod and  setting the camera features/options appropriately.
I tried playing around with the lens last night and found that the lens is great, now I just need to learn how to use it.  Your inputs are very much appreciated.

Thank You.

One thing you should be careful is the angle you are taking your pics.
Because, some stuffs reflects very brightly and pics get awful!
